Late autumn / early winter
Late autumn and early winter are the perfect time to tidy up your shed and storage areas in the garden. It’s getting too cold and wet to do too much more in the garden itself so I always like to have a bit of a clear out, clean up any pots and trays lying around throwing any that are broken. Tools are cleaned, secateurs are sharpened and oiled and finally the lawnmower is sent in for its annual service. I try and send mine in each year although I must be honest I forgot last year.
It’s also the time to start planning what you would like to plant next season whether it be vegetables, fruit and flowers from seed or the plants you would like to have. This I find quite a therapeutic thing to do as when it’s cold and miserable outside you can be thinking about the next season from the warmth of your house with a nice cuppa.
